What we collect
Your name, email, password (stored only as a one-way hash), phone number, and what you tell us about your move: home country, university, city, arrival date, languages and concerns. Messages with your advisor, the calls you book, your checklist progress, document statuses and expiry dates, and the emergency-card details you choose to enter.
Copies of documents you upload — your passport, visa, I-20 and the like. They’re encrypted before they’re stored, only you, your advisor and Borderly administrators can open them, and every time someone on our team does, it’s recorded. You can delete a copy at any time, and all of them are deleted when your account is closed. We only ever ask for documents inside your Borderly account, never by email, WhatsApp or text.
Who can see it
You, your assigned advisor, and Borderly administrators. We don’t sell your data, and we don’t share it with banks, landlords or anyone else unless you ask us to:
Legal help. We send the immigration lawyer we pass your question to your name, email, phone number and what you wrote — you agree to that on the form each time. Nothing else from your account goes to them, and the email we send them isn’t kept on our side once it’s delivered.
Housing. When you choose a place, you agree to your advisor giving that landlord or property manager what the application needs — usually your name, contact details and what they ask to see. Only for the place you chose, and nothing before you choose.
Service providers
A payment processor handles payments (we never see your full card number). Resend delivers our emails. Sentry receives error reports when something breaks, set up not to collect your personal details, with secret links removed. Twilio sends our own team a text when someone buys a plan, with their name and user number. Our database and hosting providers store the data above on our behalf. Each processes data only to provide their service to us. We don’t use advertising or analytics services.
Cookies
One essential cookie keeps you signed in; with your permission, another remembers your timezone. No advertising or tracking cookies. The cookie policy lists everything we store in your browser.
We email you about your account, payments, calls and anything that needs you. Updates and reminders — a new message, a call tomorrow — can be turned off from your Account page or the link in any of those emails; the rest are part of the service.
Age
Borderly is for people aged 16 and over. If you’re 16 or 17, you give us a parent’s or guardian’s name and email; we use them only to ask that person to agree, and to tell you when they have. In the phone apps we ask the app store for your age group where the law provides one — we receive only “16 or 17”, “18 or over” or “under 16”, never your age or date of birth. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16; if we learn we have, we delete it.
If you’re under 18, you can remove anything you’ve posted — messages, notes, documents, your emergency card — by deleting it where it is, by deleting your account, or by asking us at borderlydev@gmail.com to take it down. (Removing it from Borderly doesn’t reach copies someone else already made, such as an email you sent to a landlord yourself.)
Sensitive information
Some of what you give us is sensitive: your passport, visa and immigration documents, and any medical notes or insurance details on your emergency card. We use it only to help you with your move — never for advertising, never to profile you, and never sold. Your phone’s Face ID, fingerprint or screen lock is checked by the phone itself: Borderly never receives any biometric data, and we don’t scan the faces in documents you upload.
How we protect it, and how long we keep it
Everything travels over an encrypted connection. Document copies are encrypted (AES-256) before they’re stored, passwords are stored only as a one-way hash, and every time someone on our team opens a copy it’s logged. Signed-in sessions end after 30 days, and signing out ends them straight away. If a breach ever affected your information, we’d tell you — and the authorities where the law requires — as quickly as we can.
We keep your information while your account is open. When it’s deleted, your personal data is erased within 30 days; payment records are kept only as long as tax law requires, without your name attached to anything else.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Borderly doesn’t track you across other websites or apps, and doesn’t let anyone else do so through ours — there are no advertising, analytics or social-media scripts. So a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal from your browser has nothing to switch off: we already treat everyone as if they’d sent one, and we never sell or share your data for advertising.
Your rights, wherever you live
Whether you live in California, Texas, Illinois or anywhere else, you can ask us to: tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy; correct anything wrong; and delete it. Email borderlydev@gmail.com (or use “Delete my account”); we answer within 30 days, and if we can’t do something we’ll say why — reply to that answer if you disagree and someone else will look at it again. We won’t treat you differently for asking. We don’t sell personal information, don’t share it for targeted advertising, don’t give it to anyone for their own marketing, and don’t make decisions about you by automated means alone.
Changes to this policy
The date at the top says when this policy last changed. If we change it in a way that matters, we’ll email you before the change takes effect.
Your choices, and deleting your data
You can update your profile at any time. To have your account and data deleted, use “Delete my account” on your Account page, on the website or in the app, or email borderlydev@gmail.com. We confirm by email and erase your personal data within 30 days: your profile, messages, documents, emergency card, legal and housing requests. We keep payment records as long as tax law requires, with your name removed from everything else. For a copy of your data, email us.
